A great effort needs to be made as regards prevention and raising social awareness when controlling alien invasive species. That is the reason why WWF Spain is working on the “Awareness-Rising Programme on Alien Invasive Species” in Madrid, together with the Department of Environment and Land Planning of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Obra Social Caja Madrid, and the Foundation for Environmental Development and Investigation (FIDA).
The main aim of this programme is to let society know about the fact that alien invasive species are a major threat to biodiversity conservation in the Madrid Autonomous Community, and Spain as a whole. It focuses on the development of awareness-rising actions addressed to society in general, and schoolchildren and pet-shops in particular. Within this framework, a panel of experts has been set up in order to analyze the feasibility of the strategies to be followed when carrying out those actions, a panel of which the LIFE + INVASEP Programme will be part.
