Last January, the Iberian Working Group on Invasive Species was created, based on the LIFE + INVASEP Project. This group has been developed within the National Committee of Fauna and Flora, which is coordinated by the Directorate General for Enviromental Quality and Assessment, from the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality. Representatives from each Spanish Autonomous Community, and the Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas (ICNF) from Portugal will take part in this group.
By creating this working group, administrations with responsibilities related to environmental issues will have the opportunity to make public any actions taken regarding alien invasive species, the methodology being used, obtained results, and also the existence of any new invasive species. At the same time, some guidelines will be set up for the performance of coordinated activities between the Autonomous Communities and the Ministry, especially designed to control particular invasive species. There will be a person in charge of coordinating the working group, as well as advising representatives on techinical issues related to the problem. It has also been established that an annual meeting will be held every year while the LIFE + INVASEP Programme lasts (2013-2016), the first one being expected to be held in XXXX.
